The gold rush of space: venture capital investing in space startups

Today, as an increasing number of satellites are being launched into space, Crawford is investing in companies developing technologies to service these satellites. This includes software to help command and control satellite fleets, fuel depots to keep them aloft and laser communication systems to communicate between satellites and send more data, at higher bandwidths, down to Earth.

“We expect 50,000 satellites to launch in the next five to seven years,” Crawford said. “That’s the gold rush of space. What are the pickaxes and shovels? What are the products and services that every single one of those 50,000 satellites are going to need?”
